
NCPS Demerger Updates
Good Afternoon,
We are pleased to announce two upcoming community forums scheduled for the end of January. The first forum will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Winstead Avenue Elementary School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event will focus on discussing the future plans for Englewood Elementary, Williford Elementary, Winstead Avenue Elementary, and Edwards Elementary. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from District leadership and participate in a Q&A session. We encourage all families of those elementary school students and surrounding areas to attend.
The second forum is set for Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Edwards Middle School, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This gathering will address the prospective plans for families of Edwards Middle and Rocky Mount Middle School students. Similar to the first forum, District leadership will be present to share insights and answer questions. We strongly encourage the attendance of all families with current and future middle school students.
In preparation for these meetings, we invite you to complete an anonymous survey available via the link below. The survey is designed to assist in organizing the community engagement forums related to the NCPS demerger. Its purpose is to gather questions beforehand, allowing leadership to address concerns during the forums effectively. These forums will focus on the reorganization plans for our district and are specifically for Nash County residents affected by the demerger. Please note that the survey will close on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Revised Schedule for January 10, 2024:
- Traditional High School: 9:30 a.m.
- Elementary School: 10:00 a.m.
- Middle School: 10:30 a.m.
- Tar River Academy and CITI High School: 11:00 a.m.
- Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School: 11:30 a.m.
Breakfast will be available at schools. Students may be dropped off 40 minutes prior to the start of their school.
Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe in this weather. For any inquiries, contact your respective school. All after-school activities and athletic programs will proceed as usual.

This is Principal Kristen Tedford calling you to welcome everyone back to school on Monday, January 8th. This week grades K-5 can access their report cards on Powerschool. Please let your teacher know if you will need a paper copy for Thursday's Folder. Also we will have invitations for students who will be receiving a mid year award on January 19th during specials. Parents and guardians of students who will receive an award are able to attend this event. On Friday, January 12 of this week will be our PBIS celebration during specials. The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.

Parents,
If you were a Fast pass winner, today is the last day that you can use the front circle for drop off and pick up. We will do our Fast Drawing for second semester when we return from Winter Break. Tickets will be $5 for a chance to win 1 of 5 Fast Passes. Look for forms in Thursday folders on January 11th.

The $20 early bird pricing for yearbooks ends TODAY Thursday, 12/21. Please return the order envelope to your child's teacher or you may order online at www.strawbridge.net. The online code is YB29549. Beginning 12/22 through 2/29/24, yearbooks will cost $25.


Tomorrow is an early release at 1pm. All car riders need to be picked up by 1:25 at the latest. Bus 230 could be 90 to 120 minutes late tomorrow for the pm, route. This is the afternoon route only.
We hope you have a fantastic holiday break! We will see all students back on January 8th!

All parents are invited to our holiday STEM parties on Wednesday. Party times are 4th @ 9am, 3rd @ 9:30am & K, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and Self-Contained @ 10am. You may check your child out with their teacher at the conclusion of their party. Tomorrow is also early release. Early check out ends @ 12:30pm. School dismisses @ 1pm.
