This is Principal Kristen Tedford calling you to welcome everyone back to school on Monday, January 8th. This week grades K-5 can access their report cards on Powerschool. Please let your teacher know if you will need a paper copy for Thursday's Folder. Also we will have invitations for students who will be receiving a mid year award on January 19th during specials. Parents and guardians of students who will receive an award are able to attend this event. On Friday, January 12 of this week will be our PBIS celebration during specials. I hope everyone has a great week! #Be Kind, Be Great, Be a Bobcat!

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.

NC Law Senate Bill 49 / SL 2023-106 states that from 01/01/24, to include a child in photos/videos/recordings, parents/guardians must Opt-In. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Find the form in Rooms, under Materials -> "Mandatory" -> "updated model release form".

As we approach the mid-year mark of the school year, many of our teachers have exhausted or are running low on the following items:
Hand Sanitizer
Clorox/Lysol Wipes
Kleenex
Paper Towel
Please consider donating some of these items to your child's classroom between now and the time we return from Winter Break. In addition, the office is running low on cases of bottled water. Since our water fountains are used as filling stations, we keep water in the office for students who may forget to bring a bottle from home. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Reminders:
Brame will be closed December 20 - January 5 for Winter Break. They will reopen on January 8, 2024.
Students in Ms. Westlund and Mrs. Smith's classes are working on a service project and they need the help of the school and local community. They are asking for donations of NEW winter gloves, hats, socks and coats to support children in our school and community that are in need of these items to keep warm during the winter months. Each student will earn a Bobcat Buck for each item that they donate. Please share this information with family and friends. There is a donation box in the front lobby. Donations will be accepted until Thursday, December 21st. Thank you in advance for supporting these students as they work to help their school and community!
