Good evening, parents and guardians, This is Mrs. Kelley, Assistant Principal of Winstead Elementary, with this week’s WAVE message. Students in grades 3 through 5 will take their end-of-year reading and math benchmark tests from April 14th to 16th. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep so they can do their best on these important assessments. Spring Break will begin on Thursday, April 18th, and continue through Friday, April 25th. Please note that school will be closed on Friday, April 18th, in observance of Good Friday. We’re excited to invite you to Duke Energy Night on Monday, April 28th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This fun, hands-on science event is open to all grade levels. After exploring the science stations, we invite you to join us for dinner! Our annual school carnival is scheduled for Friday, May 16th. More details will be shared as the date gets closer—stay tuned! Winstead now offers virtual tutoring to support students with homework and academics. To access the service, students should go to varsitytutors.com/login, which will take them to their Clever account. From there, just follow the on-screen directions. DLI Kindergarten Applications are now open! You can apply online through our school website or stop by the front office to complete an application in person. Please remember—spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. A reminder about our morning procedures: If your child is in the car line at 8:00 a.m., they are considered tardy, and you’ll need to come inside to sign them in. Breakfast ends at 8:05 a.m. for any student arriving late, unless they are bus riders. To ensure your child has time to eat, please arrive between 7:20 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Being on time is important, as students miss valuable instruction when they’re late. For early pickups between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., please park in the staff parking lot near the buses. This helps avoid congestion as the car line begins to form around 12:30 p.m. While school officially dismisses at 3:00 p.m., we’ve noticed that some students are remaining until 4:30 p.m. whenever possible, please arrive closer to 3:00 p.m. for pickup. Students are tired by the end of the day, and our staff may have meetings to attend after dismissal. Thank you for your continued support. Kindergarten registration is on April 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our second graders are going on a field trip on April 9th. It’s been a very busy week at the Book Fair but there are still lots of great books!! We will be open tonight during Curriculum Night from 5-6. We will be open for our last day tomorrow from 7:30-12:00 so feel free to come shop with your kiddos when you drop them off in the morning! Thank you for all of the support this week!

The World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser has come to an end. All money must be turned in on Monday , February 24th for your child to receive credit. We are unable to accept candy bars that were not sold. You must turn in $60 for the whole box. Thank you for helping our school .

Due to inclement weather, all traditional Nash County Public Schools will be closed for students on Friday, February 21, 2025. Staff should follow telework procedures. All Innovative Schools, CITI High School and Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School, will operate on a remote learning schedule.
